HistoSonics, a pioneering medical device company, has officially opened its expanded Histotripsy Training Center in Hong Kong. The move reinforces Hong Kong’s position as a leading hub for advanced medical education, clinical collaboration, and innovation across Asia.
Originally launched in May 2025 at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong the first such facility in Asia the center has already trained numerous physicians from across the region. The newly expanded facility will significantly increase capacity for hands-on training, clinical observation, and multidisciplinary educational programs.
The center focuses on equipping physicians with essential skills in patient selection, treatment planning, procedural workflow, and building successful histotripsy programs within their institutions. Histotripsy is a breakthrough non-invasive technology that uses focused ultrasound to mechanically destroy and liquefy unwanted tissue and tumors without the need for incisions or radiation.
Since its establishment, Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong has served as HistoSonics’ regional Center of Excellence for physician education. The expanded collaboration will now extend into clinical research and future technology development.

Prof. Albert Chan, Director of the Liver Cancer Surgery Centre at Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong and principal investigator of the first clinical trial on liver cancer with histotripsy in Asia, stressed the value of experience sharing among physicians. Dr Vince Lau, Director of the Interventional Radiology Centre and co-investigator of the trial, emphasized how the expanded center will help clinicians gain the knowledge and confidence needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

The expanded training center comes at a time of increasing interest in non-invasive tumor therapies. Histotripsy’s Edison System is currently focused on liver tumor treatment, with ongoing development for applications in kidney, pancreas, prostate, and other organs.
This development strengthens HistoSonics’ long-term commitment to supporting physicians and healthcare institutions throughout Asia as the company continues to expand the clinical adoption of histotripsy technology.
