IIT Guwahati Boosts Research & Student Mobility with Japan

    • Collaboration aims to boost research, innovation, and student mobility.

    IIT Guwahati has taken a significant step in strengthening its academic and research collaboration with Japan. A high-level Japanese delegation, led by HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Ambassador ONO Keiichi, visited the institute to explore deeper cooperation in research and student exchange.

    During the visit, IIT Guwahati’s Director, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, shared the institute’s growing partnership with Japan, highlighting the presence of more than 10 honorary professors from Japan. Over the past two years, the institute has seen over 70 Japanese students participating in exchange and joint degree programs.

    The delegation toured key facilities, including the Centre for Nanotechnology, where they learned about cutting-edge research. They also visited the IIT Guwahati Research Park, interacting with incubated startups and witnessing a demonstration of a robotic hand developed by researchers. The delegation was also introduced to the Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute, emphasizing IIT Guwahati’s focus on interdisciplinary healthcare research.

    Ambassador ONO Keiichi assured the institute of the Embassy's support in simplifying the visa process for students heading to Japan, further encouraging student mobility between the two nations.
