Indonesia and Cyprus are working to expand cooperation in higher education, research, and technology to boost student skills and academic collaboration.
Indonesia’s Deputy Minister Stella Christie met Cypriot Ambassador Nikos Panayiotou in Jakarta on April 1 to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement will serve as a common framework, allowing universities in both countries to collaborate more easily without separate approvals.
The partnership will reduce administrative barriers and help institutions focus on meaningful research and skill development. Both countries also see strong potential for collaboration in maritime studies and emerging areas like carbon capture.
The initiative will support student mobility, with Cyprus offering scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate studies. There is also scope for doctoral programs and joint research, including remote collaboration.
Cyprus also highlighted opportunities under the European Union’s Horizon Europe program, which can expand global exposure for students and researchers.

In addition to education, both countries discussed cooperation in sectors like the blue economy and tourism, creating wider career opportunities.
A Cypriot delegation focused on technology and innovation is expected to visit Indonesia in June 2026 to strengthen ties with universities and industry.
This partnership reflects a growing focus on global collaboration to build future-ready skills and research capabilities.
