Daejeon has launched Korea's first-ever biohealth-focused vocational high school, Daejeon Life Science High School, to better equip students for the booming biohealth sector. The launch marks the beginning of the 'contract-based specialized high school' program designed to address the increasing demand for skilled workers in the bio industry.
A consortium including Daejeon Metropolitan City, the Daejeon Metropolitan Office of Education, Alteogen, Daejeon Techno Park, and Chungnam National University formed to create this program. The initiative, part of the Ministry of Education's project, aims to tailor curricula to local industrial needs and provide hands-on, industry-linked training.

With a planned investment of 75 billion won (about $62 million) through 2030, the program will focus on field practice, industry collaborations, and employment support systems to ensure students are job-ready. This is expected to boost Daejeon's competitiveness in the biohealth industry and nurture skilled professionals for regional companies.
Choi Sung-ah, Vice Mayor of Daejeon, emphasized the importance of this initiative for the city’s development as a hub for science and technology in Korea.
