Korea-India Partnership Advances Mechatronics Vocational Training

    • KOICA launches mechatronics vocational project in Bhopal, inspired by Korea’s Meister High School model

    The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has launched a bilateral project to strengthen vocational education and training (VET) in mechatronics at the Multi-Purpose Demonstration School (DMS) in Bhopal. The initiative, inspired by Korea’s Meister High School model, marks the first government-to-government technical cooperation in TVET between India and Korea and will run until 2027.

    The project aims to meet India’s growing demand for skilled manpower in manufacturing and emerging industries, supporting the government’s Make in India initiative and the National Education Policy (NEP) focus on employability. It will enhance hands-on teaching skills, strengthen industry linkages, and improve youth employment outcomes.

    Key components include policy advisory support for mechatronics curriculum aligned with the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF), development of student textbooks and teachers’ guides, supply of 41 types of advanced training equipment including CNC and PLC systems, and training programs in Korea for Indian teachers and policymakers.

    The project was inaugurated by Lee Seong Ho, Ambassador of Korea to India, Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Education, and Dinesh Prasad Saklani, NCERT Director, along with representatives from KOICA, KCCI, KRIVET, and local Indian institutions. Officials highlighted the project’s potential as a national model for vocational education, with plans to expand similar programs across India.

    KOICA will also conduct baseline surveys, develop joint curricula, and host Indian TVET policymakers in Korea to enhance policy formulation, vocational education quality, and sustainable industrial growth.
