The University of Macau (UM) and the Macao Union Medical Center have strengthened their collaboration to advance medical education, research, and workforce development in the region. The two institutions recently held their second joint symposium, bringing together more than 100 medical experts and scholars to discuss deeper cooperation.
At the symposium, both sides agreed to expand research and clinical data sharing, introduce structured student and clinical staff exchange programs, and develop long-term collaboration in precision medicine and the treatment of major diseases. The initiatives aim to better connect academic learning with real-world healthcare practice and improve hands-on training for future medical professionals.
Liu Zhengyin, Director of the Macao Union Medical Center, said the partnership brings together the research and clinical strengths of both institutions. He added that this integrated approach will raise the standard of medical education in Macao and help build a strong pipeline of skilled doctors, researchers, and healthcare workers.

Earlier this month, UM announced plans to restructure its academic framework by launching the Faculty of Medicine along with four new science and technology faculties, reinforcing its focus on job-ready skills and innovation-led education.
