Kyrgyzstan, Japan Sign Pact To Launch Digital University

    • Kyrgyzstan and Japan signed a memorandum to establish the Kyrgyz-Japan Digital University (K-JDU), strengthening bilateral cooperation in technology and education.
    • The agreement was concluded at the Central Asia + Japan Business Forum, underscoring the regional priority on human capital and digital development.
    • K-JDU aims to train globally competitive IT professionals, combining Japanese technological expertise with Kyrgyzstan’s growing digital talent pool.

Kyrgyzstan and Japan have made a substantial move forward in improving mutual collaboration in technology and education by signing the Memorandum to found the Kyrgyz-Japan Digital University (K-JDU) Initiative. The Memorandum was signed during the framework of the Central Asia + Japan Business Forum, which is a high-level meeting involving the participation of state leaders. High-level meetings symbolize the increasing need for collaboration at the regionally administered levels concerning human resources and digital development.

According to the High Technology Park of the Kyrgyz Republic, the trilateral memorandum of cooperation involves the participation of Digital Knowledge Co., Ltd of Japan, the Kyrgyz-Japan Human Development Center (KRJC), and the High-Tech Park of Kyrgyzstan. The project is an indication of the collective efforts aimed at the development of a future-oriented education environment that is sensitive to the dynamically changing requirements of the digital economy of the global scale. The project leverages the technological competence of Japan and the increasing number of IT experts in Kyrgyzstan.

The new Kyrgyz-Japan Digital University would be a specialized educational institution, which would train highly qualified professionals in the information technology sector, capable of competing in the global job market. One of the major intentions underlying the development program would be the acquisition of digital skills based on global requirements, besides knowledge of the Japanese language, which is in higher demand by Japanese companies, as there is a shortage of qualified technology experts.

Apart from workforce development, there are several other objectives that are outlined in the memorandum, mainly involving the strengthening of academic, technological, and institutional links between both countries. Both parties aim at jointly planning and developing educational projects, incorporating new digital learning platforms, as well as facilitating the exchange of knowledge between experts from both Kyrgyzstan and Japan.

This will play a critical role in the modernization of the higher education system in Kyrgyzstan, especially in the area of information technology, in addition to creating new horizons for Japan. The fact that the memorandum was signed at the Central Asia + Japan Business Forum also underlines the importance of education and technology as the foundations for building an economic partnership.

Indeed, the Central Asia + Japan Business Forum provided an opportunity to discuss trade, investment, innovation, and sustainable development for the region, with education-driven digital transformation being recognized as a region-wide priority. It is within this context that the launch of K-JDU becomes relevant. As Qazinform previously reported, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-JomartTokayev, also took part in the forum, which highlights the general involvement of the entire region in Japanese activities.

Thus, the founding of the Kyrgyz-Japan Digital University proves to be not only the result of the collaboration between two nations, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, but also a movement towards increased cooperation between Japan and the entire Central Asia region, putting education and the development of the digital sector at the very core.
