Malaysia’s Ministry of Digital has partnered with Microsoft to roll out 'Microsoft Elevate', a national initiative aimed at building AI skills across the country. The program supports Malaysia’s AI Nation 2030 vision by preparing people, institutions, and businesses for an AI-driven future.
The initiative takes a broad, inclusive approach by targeting key groups such as teachers, students, small businesses, civil servants, and even retired military personnel. It aims to ensure that AI knowledge is not limited to tech experts but becomes part of everyday learning and work.
Educators across schools, colleges, and technical institutions will receive practical AI training to improve teaching methods and curriculum design. Students and young learners will gain hands-on exposure to AI tools, helping them build job-ready skills early.
For micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the program offers training to adopt AI in daily operations, customer engagement, and productivity. Institutional leaders and government officials will also be trained to guide responsible AI adoption at scale.
The initiative follows a phased roadmap through 2030, starting with basic skilling and moving toward deeper sector integration and long-term sustainability. Since its pilot launch in January, the program has already trained around 80,000 learners.

Microsoft Elevate builds on earlier efforts that trained hundreds of thousands of Malaysians in AI, cloud, and cybersecurity. The new program aims to create a strong talent pipeline and improve job readiness across industries.
Officials say the focus is on making AI practical, accessible, and relevant to real-world needs. By connecting education, skills, and employment, Malaysia hopes to strengthen its workforce and stay competitive in the global digital economy.
