Indonesia’s Maluku province is strengthening cooperation with Japan to boost education, skills development, and employment opportunities for its people.

The Maluku provincial government held talks with the Japanese Consulate General to explore partnerships across key areas, with education and workforce readiness taking center stage. Deputy Governor Abdullah Vanath said the province is keen to build strong education linkages that translate into real jobs and better livelihoods.

Vanath highlighted plans to expand cooperation between local universities, including Pattimura University, and Japanese institutions. These partnerships aim to improve the quality of higher education and develop skilled human resources suited to global standards.

He also stressed the importance of vocational education. Maluku plans to widen access to skill-based training that can help residents secure jobs, both within Indonesia and in Japan, where demand for skilled workers is rising. The province wants young people to gain practical skills that meet industry needs.

Beyond classrooms, the government is aligning education with economic priorities such as fisheries, agriculture, and energy. Officials have been asked to help local industries meet international standards, ensuring that skills training leads to sustainable employment.
