Nerwa College Organizes Skill Workshop and Employment Fair

    • Career-focused workshop by Himalayan Rise, Himachal Pradesh University, and SkillLabs Chandigarh helps students identify inborn talents and prepare for future employment.
    • Sessions included talent mapping through digital technologies by Dr. B.S. Chauhan and insights on emerging careers and essential employability skills by Dr. Himesh Sharma.
    • Employment fair with 20+ recruitment agencies across 35+ sectors, along with online interviews for 300+ students, provided real-world exposure and career guidance.

A career-focused workshop aimed at helping students identify their inborn talents and prepare for future employment was jointly organised by Himalayan Rise, the Department of Psychology at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, and SkillLabs Chandigarh, a government-authorised skill development and placement organisation. The event saw participation from students of more than fifteen government and private educational institutions.

The workshop was conducted in two sessions. In the first, Dr. B.S. Chauhan delivered a lecture on decoding natural abilities through digital technologies. He said modern science, psychology, data analytics, and artificial intelligence can help map a student’s talents, interests, and potential. Dr. Chauhan added that in countries such as the United States, Europe, and parts of Asia, scientific talent-mapping systems are increasingly used before career selection, helping reduce wrong career choices, mental stress, and frequent job changes.

The second session, led by Dr. Himesh Sharma, focused on future careers and strategic preparation. Dr. Sharma outlined emerging sectors and emphasised the importance of skills such as communication, problem-solving, digital literacy, teamwork, adaptability, and leadership. “These skills are now considered essential for employability in the evolving job market”, he said.

Alongside the sessions, an employment fair provided students direct exposure to industry opportunities. More than twenty reputed recruitment agencies and human resource professionals participated, discussing openings across over thirty-five sectors including banking, finance, information technology, media, healthcare, education, digital marketing, content writing, counselling, travel, e-commerce, yoga, and wellness. Organisers said the fair offered students insights into professional expectations, practical skills, and the continuous learning mindset required by employers.

As part of the event, online interviews were conducted in which over 300 students participated, giving them practical experience and exposure to real-world recruitment processes. Organisers highlighted that the workshop and employment fair together aimed to equip students with the guidance, knowledge, and confidence needed to make informed career decisions.

Himalayan Rise and SkillLabs Chandigarh said the programme was designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, combining psychological insights with technology to ensure students are better prepared for the competitive job market.
