Oxford University Collaborates on K-Culture Education Initiative

    • New program blends K-pop with character and leadership education
    • Courses aim to build creative skills and global learning pathways
    • Initiative opens opportunities in arts education and cultural careers

Composer and producer Kim Hyung-suk has partnered with University of Oxford to launch a new education program centered on K-pop and K-culture. The collaboration focuses on developing creative skills, leadership values, and global learning opportunities through Korean arts education.

The agreement was signed with the Oxford Character Project, part of Oxford’s Department of Politics and International Relations. Under the partnership, both sides will jointly design primary and secondary school courses that combine Hallyu-based creative education with character and leadership training. The goal is to help students develop artistic skills while strengthening personal values and teamwork abilities.

Kim plans to operate the Korean International School of Arts and Sciences (KISAS) program in South Korea using this curriculum. The program aims to prepare students for future careers in music, arts, education, and cultural industries. Oxford University will support the initiative by hosting customized summer camps and issuing certificates, offering students international exposure and academic recognition.

Earlier in 2024, Kim allowed Oxford to use more than 1,400 of his K-pop songs for Korean language education and also served as a visiting researcher at the university. His experience bridges the creative industry and academia, adding real-world relevance to the program.

Oxford representatives said the partnership adds academic depth to the study of one of today’s most influential cultural movements. The initiative highlights how culture-driven education can create new skill pathways and job opportunities in the global creative economy.
