Petrovietnam Powers 100 STEM Rooms to Transform Learning Nationwide

    • 100 STEM rooms nationwide to be completed by December 31, 2025, across 34 provinces and cities.
    • Modern, international-standard labs equipped with AI-IoT systems, robotics, 3D printers, and hands-on learning tools.
    • Teacher training, interdisciplinary STEM lessons, and nationwide innovation hubs for students.

Petrovietnam, the Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group, in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Training, launched the STEM Innovation Petrovietnam programme on December 3, aiming to establish 100 internationally standardised STEM classrooms in 2025 across 34 provinces and cities.

Tran Quang Dung, Standing Deputy Secretary of Petrovietnam’s Party Committee, said the initiative was inspired by an idea proposed by Party General Secretary To Lam. “This programme reflects Petrovietnam’s long-term commitment to developing national human resources with strong skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics”, he noted.

Officially launched on September 21, 2025, the programme plans to set up three STEM rooms in each participating locality – two for high schools and one for secondary schools – within 100 days, before the end of the year. These rooms are designed to serve as hands-on learning centers and training hubs for core teachers, helping expand STEM education across the country.

Thai Van Tai, Director of the General Education Department under the Ministry of Education and Training, highlighted the importance of integrating digital skills, robotics, and STEM into schools.

“Collaborating with Petrovietnam is a timely and practical step to accelerate the spread of STEM education nationwide”, he said. STEM has been part of Vietnam’s compulsory General Education Curriculum since 2018, with activities promoting logical reasoning, critical thinking, and teamwork. Recent government instructions require localities to expand STEM-related content further.

As of December 2, Petrovietnam has completed 14 classrooms, 28 are under installation, and 58 are in the final stages of supplier selection. All 100 rooms are expected to be handed over by December 31, 2025.

The STEM rooms follow a 'speed – standardisation – sustainability' model and are equipped with modern tools including smart interactive boards, AI-IoT systems, VEX robotics sets, 3D printers, CNC cutters, and energy/environment laboratory kits. The rooms meet international standards such as FabLab, NGSS, ISTE, and CSTA, while aligning with Vietnam’s 2018 General Education requirements. Each room features six functional components, covering facilities, fabrication machinery, learning tools, connected digital resources, materials, and administrative systems.

Suppliers will provide on-site training to ensure teachers and technicians can use the equipment effectively. Four additional training modules will help teachers design interdisciplinary, project-based STEM lessons and organise activities supporting innovation, career guidance, and digital skills.

Looking ahead, Petrovietnam will organise the STEM Innovation Petrovietnam Festival between May and September 2026, featuring workshops, VEX robotics contests, robot-drone coordination competitions, and science project challenges. The programme also aims to connect STEM rooms across Vietnam and internationally, initially with Singapore, and link them to universities and research institutes. From 2026 onward, Petrovietnam plans to continue assisting localities with additional standard STEM rooms on a matching-fund basis, with numbers increasing year after year.
