- DepEd Eastern Visayas ramps up campaign to boost public school enrollment before the August 8 deadline.
- Over 1.1 million learners enrolled so far, with schools urged to assist late enrollees through flexible options.
- Free enrollment and relaxed ID requirements aim to make access easier, with in-person, digital, and dropbox methods available.
The DepEd regional office here has intensified its information campaign to try and persuade more Eastern Visayas learners to enroll in public schools for the current school year before Aug. 8.
DepEd Eastern Visayas regional information officer Jasmin Calzita indicated that they are hopeful to include more enrollees from the 1,106,330 students who were registered in elementary, junior high school, and senior high school schools in the region as of July 11, 2025.
"We have distributed the schedule of enrollment to all schools so that they can notify parents and students. Late enrollees are usually accepted if they can be present at least 80 percent of school days and meet the quarterly objectives", Calzita said by phone interview. The DepEd has requested schools to extend assistance to get late enrollees back on track.
Calzita added that there is free enrollment in public school, and a student only needs to provide a copy of their certificate of live birth once from elementary to senior high school.
For those without a certificate of live birth, schools also accept other identification proofs, including a government-issued ID card, barangay certificate, baptismal certificate, marriage certificate, PhilHealth ID, persons with disability ID, and certificate of founding issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
The department of education has provided three enrollment options: in-person; utilization of short messaging services, electronic mail, or Facebook messaging; and dropbox enrollment.
Of the 1,106,330 enrolled learners in 4,254 public schools in Eastern Visayas as of July 11, kindergarten students account for some 79,652, elementary school for 528,314, junior high school for 344,464, and senior high school for 153,900. During the previous school year, the DepEd had 1,172,200 enrollees, slightly less than the 1,216,112 enrolled a year before.
