A significant step toward strengthening international education partnerships and advancing cross-border academic collaboration has been taken with the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Sakuranesia Foundation and Karakalpak State University in Nukus, Uzbekistan. The agreement marks the beginning of a strategic partnership designed to enhance cooperation in higher education, research collaboration, human resource development, and cultural exchange among Uzbekistan, Indonesia, and Japan, creating new opportunities for students, educators, and researchers across the region.

The partnership reflects a growing trend among educational institutions and organizations to build stronger international networks that support knowledge sharing, innovation, and global engagement. As universities increasingly seek opportunities beyond national borders, collaborations such as this are becoming essential for preparing students to thrive in an interconnected world driven by technological advancement, multicultural understanding, and international cooperation.

Speaking about the significance of the agreement, Sakuranesia Foundation Education Adviser Ken Ito emphasized that stronger educational and research ties among the three countries have the potential to create vibrant networks of knowledge and cultural exchange throughout Asia. He noted that the collaboration is expected to foster deeper academic engagement while encouraging students and researchers to explore new perspectives through international experiences and interdisciplinary learning opportunities.

The MoU signing ceremony brought together prominent representatives from both institutions, including Sakuranesia Foundation Founder Tovic Rustam, Education Adviser Ken Ito, and Karakalpak State University Rector Jollibekov Berdiyar Bakhtiyarovich. Their participation underscored the shared commitment to expanding global education initiatives and building sustainable partnerships that can contribute to long-term educational development.

The collaboration is also supported by respected academics working to strengthen the international framework of the partnership. Among them are Satoshi Togashi, a visiting professor at the Institute of Agriculture and Agrotechnologies of Karakalpakstan, and Janbolat Akseytov, an assistant professor at the same institute. Both scholars have played important roles in coordinating and facilitating the development of this international cooperation, helping to create pathways for future academic and research activities.

Over the years, the Sakuranesia Foundation has established itself as a key promoter of educational exchange programs, cultural diplomacy, and academic collaboration between Indonesia and Japan. Through an extensive network of educational and institutional partners, the foundation has worked to create opportunities for students, educators, and professionals to participate in international learning experiences that strengthen mutual understanding and professional growth.

Its growing network includes several leading institutions, such as the University of Indonesia (UI), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), Indonesia University of Education (UPI), Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta, Bunkyo Gakuin University, Sanko Gakuin, Weathernews, and the Tsuzuki Education Group. These partnerships have contributed to the foundation’s mission of promoting educational excellence and international collaboration across Asia.

Under the newly signed agreement, both organizations plan to expand cooperation through student exchange programs, joint research projects, faculty collaboration, and specialized human resource development initiatives. The partnership will also encourage multidisciplinary cooperation in key fields including agriculture education, environmental studies, arts and culture, social innovation, and sustainable development. These focus areas align with global priorities and are expected to generate valuable academic and practical outcomes for participating institutions.

Sakuranesia Foundation Chairman and Founder Sakura Ijuin described the agreement as a reaffirmation of the organization’s commitment to promoting international education, cultural understanding, and collaborative development among nations. He emphasized that educational partnerships can serve as powerful tools for building lasting friendships, strengthening diplomatic relationships, and encouraging harmony among diverse cultures.

Karakalpak State University Rector Jollibekov Berdiyar Bakhtiyarovich expressed optimism about the future of the partnership, noting that it would help deepen academic and cultural connections among Indonesia, Japan, and Uzbekistan. As global higher education continues to evolve, this new collaboration represents an important milestone in expanding international academic exchange, fostering innovation, and creating meaningful opportunities for future generations of students and researchers across Asia and beyond.
