South Korea, Arm Holdings to Launch 'Arm School' for IC Design

    • South Korea partners with Arm Holdings to launch 'Arm School' for semiconductor education and talent development.
    • The program will offer 1,400 courses combining theory and hands-on training in chip design, SoC, and embedded systems.
    • Initiative aims to bridge academia and industry, fostering skilled engineers to advance South Korea’s semiconductor ecosystem.

The South Korean government has signed a memorandum of understanding with Arm Holdings, the UK-based leader in semiconductor intellectual property, to establish an educational institution tentatively named 'Arm School'. It is designed with the purpose of developing highly qualified talent in semiconductor design and engineering, addressing growing demand for professionals in the burgeoning semiconductor industry of South Korea. Under this umbrella, the government and Arm are working together to develop around 1,400 integrated courses and training programs that combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on, industry-relevant experience.

In this way, Arm School responds to South Korea's strategy for strengthening its semiconductor ecosystem and competitive edge in the global marketplace. Details will focus on chip architecture, SoC design, embedded systems, and utilizing semiconductor IP. By leveraging Arm Holdings' expertise and proprietary technologies, students will have access to cutting-edge educational resources, simulation tools, and practical training modules that emulate real-world industry practices.

Government officials noted that the collaboration will impart not only technical skills to students but also facilitate innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills necessary for leading positions in the semiconductor industry. The initiative is expected to bridge the gap between academia and industry, producing a workforce capable of driving research, development, and commercialization of next-generation semiconductor technologies.
