The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad) has officially launched a two-year Executive MBA programme at its Dubai Campus, expanding its presence in the United Arab Emirates to prepare senior professionals for the region’s accelerating shift towards an AI-driven economy.
The programme is specifically designed for working executives who cannot step away from their leadership responsibilities. It combines rigorous academic training with practical, industry-aligned learning while allowing participants to continue in their professional roles.
The launch comes at a pivotal moment for the Gulf. The UAE has set an ambitious national goal of becoming a global leader in artificial intelligence by 2031. Across the wider GCC, governments and businesses are committing substantial resources to AI-led economic transformation. As organisations move beyond pilot projects to full-scale enterprise adoption of AI, demand is rising for leaders who can convert technology investments into strategic decisions, measurable business outcomes and lasting organisational change.
IIM Ahmedabad brings a strong global reputation to the initiative. According to the Financial Times Executive Education Open Rankings 2026, the institute ranks 23rd worldwide, first in Asia and first in India for executive education. The Dubai programme draws on this academic legacy while adapting it to the specific needs of the Gulf’s business environment.
The curriculum spans six terms and blends weekend in-person classes in Dubai with a seven-day immersive residency at the main IIM Ahmedabad campus in India. Participants also undertake an international immersion module and complete a faculty-supervised Executive Capstone Project. The structure places students in real-world decision-making scenarios that develop cross-functional judgment and an enterprise-wide perspective essential for leading large organisations.
A core feature of the programme is its AI-integrated curriculum. Faculty use case-based pedagogy to help executives understand how artificial intelligence is reshaping strategy, operations, talent management and competitive advantage. The aim is to close what programme designers describe as the “executive blind spot” the gap between the new capabilities senior leaders are expected to acquire and the limited time they have to step away from day-to-day responsibilities.
Professor Sunil Sharma, Dean of IIM Ahmedabad’s Dubai Campus, explained the thinking behind the design. “The Gulf is witnessing one of the most consequential economic transformations of our time and the demand for leaders who can drive that transformation has never been more acute,” he said. “We designed this programme to address what we call the executive blind spot. Senior leaders are expected to acquire new capabilities but cannot step away from the leadership responsibilities they have worked hard to earn. This programme is built exactly for that to provide the full rigour of IIM Ahmedabad’s academic tradition, in-person learning, peer interactions and an AI-integrated curriculum, structured around their professional lives.”
Professor Sharma expressed confidence that graduates would leave equipped with the strategic depth, cross-functional judgment and AI-ready perspective that organisations across the region will increasingly require.

Supporting data underscores the urgency of the initiative. According to the World Economic Forum, 41 per cent of core skills among UAE workers are expected to change by 2030. In this environment, adaptive and strategic leadership is becoming a critical competitive advantage. The new Executive MBA seeks to develop precisely these capabilities among senior professionals already operating in the Gulf.
The programme marks the third offering from IIM Ahmedabad’s Dubai Campus and forms part of a growing portfolio of management and leadership programmes tailored for professionals based in the UAE. Upon completion, participants gain access to the institute’s extensive alumni network spanning industries, functions and geographies, including active association chapters in the UAE, India and other international locations.
By bringing world-class management education to Dubai in a format that respects the constraints of senior roles, IIM Ahmedabad aims to strengthen the pipeline of AI-ready leaders at a time when the region’s economic future is increasingly tied to technological transformation. Applications for the inaugural cohort are now open.
