Asia School Demand Rises As UK Group Launches Phuket Campus

  • Synopsis
A leading UK education group has launched a new campus in Phuket, Thailand, amid rising demand for premium international schooling across Asia. The expansion aims to attract local and expatriate families seeking globally focused education, advanced learning facilities, and internationally recognized academic programs.

NLCS Phuket, a new premium international school in Thailand, is set to transform the island’s education landscape after NLCS International officially partnered with VLC Group to bring the prestigious North London Collegiate School model to Phuket. The agreement marks a significant step in the expansion of one of the United Kingdom’s most respected independent schools into Southeast Asia’s rapidly growing international education market. The new campus, known as NLCS Phuket, will offer a rigorous British curriculum for students from Early Years through Year 13 while also introducing a high-quality boarding experience designed for families across Thailand and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

The partnership agreement was signed at Courtyard by Marriott Phuket, Patong Beach Resort by Mr Daniel Lewis, Managing Director of NLCS International, and Mr Naruj Chirayus, Managing Director of VLC Group and NLCS Phuket. The development reflects Phuket’s increasing importance as a destination not only for tourism and luxury living but also for world-class education. VLC Group, known for its portfolio of premium hotels and resorts in Phuket and Khao Lak, sees the project as part of the island’s long-term transformation into a complete residential and educational hub for international families.

Founded in 1850 by educational pioneer Frances Mary Buss, North London Collegiate School has earned a global reputation for academic excellence and student achievement. In The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2026, the school was recognized as Independent Secondary School of the Year, Independent International Baccalaureate School of the Year, and London’s leading independent secondary school. It was also ranked the number one girls’ school in the UK and among the top schools nationally. These achievements have strengthened the global appeal of the NLCS educational approach, which emphasizes scholarship, creativity, leadership, and individualized pastoral care.

The new NLCS Phuket campus will be located in Cherng Talay, one of Phuket’s fastest-growing residential districts popular with expatriates, entrepreneurs, and international investors. The school is expected to initially accommodate around 1,000 students, with future expansion plans increasing capacity to approximately 1,500 students. Planned facilities include modern junior and senior school buildings, advanced science and technology laboratories, a 50-meter swimming pool, covered tennis courts, football fields, a sports hall, and dedicated boarding accommodations designed to support students from across Thailand and neighboring countries.

A key feature of the school will be its premium boarding program, which aims to provide families in Asia access to a globally respected British international education without requiring students to relocate to the UK or other distant destinations. Education leaders believe the addition of a top-tier boarding school will further strengthen Phuket’s position as a regional education center while also supporting economic growth through increased demand for housing, hospitality, transportation, and professional services.

Mr Daniel Lewis stated that the project represents an important new chapter for the wider NLCS family of schools, which already includes campuses in Jeju, Dubai, Singapore, Kobe, and Hong Kong. He emphasized that the school’s strength comes not simply from its internationally recognized name but from the authentic academic collaboration and shared educational philosophy across all NLCS campuses worldwide.

Industry experts note that Thailand’s international school sector is expanding rapidly beyond Bangkok. According to Kasikorn Research Centre, Thailand’s international school business is expected to grow by nearly 10% in 2025, while student enrollment is projected to rise significantly as more families seek globally competitive education opportunities. Phuket has emerged as one of the country’s strongest growth markets due to its international community, lifestyle appeal, and increasing number of long-term foreign residents.

With the launch of NLCS Phuket, education leaders believe Phuket is entering a new phase of development where high-quality academics, luxury living, and international connectivity combine to create one of Southeast Asia’s most attractive destinations for globally mobile families.
