China Launches Vocational Education Week to Enable Employment

    A week-long activity each year to popularize vocational education among citizens has been kicked off in China, with a range of interesting activities scheduled across the country, the Ministry of Education said.

    Vocational Education Week 2025 is a joint initiative between the Ministry of Education and eight other government departments and will take place from May 11 to 17. During the event, over 90 industry-specific activities that strengthen the integration of education and industry are scheduled.

    "In light of the major issues in vocational education development, we have planned seven theme days, such as the discussion on vocational education, industry-education integration demonstration and vocational skill exhibitions. These activities are to guide the public in perceiving skills as valuable and powerful," said Deputy Director Li Zhi of the Department of Vocational and Adult Education under the Ministry of Education.

    A Ministry of Education official pointed out that at the moment China has built the world's largest vocational education system and the system is still developing. At the moment, there are 6,862 secondary vocational schools (not including technical schools), 1,562 higher vocational colleges, and 60 undergraduate-level vocational schools nationwide. Each year, approximately 10 million high-quality workers and skilled talents are nurtured for the society.
