    • China to train 10,000 Bangladeshi students in language and technical skills
    • Program aims to boost jobs across Chinese firms in Bangladesh and abroad
    • Focus on polytechnic reform and industry-ready education

China and Bangladesh have agreed to deepen cooperation in education and skills development, with a strong focus on jobs and technical training. Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen met Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon to outline plans to train 10,000 Bangladeshi students in Chinese language and technical skills.

The initiative is expected to open employment pathways in nearly 1,000 Chinese companies operating in Bangladesh, as well as opportunities across at least 17 countries. Several universities, including University of Dhaka, North South University, and BRAC University, have already introduced Chinese language courses in collaboration with the University Grants Commission. The University of Chittagong is also expected to launch similar programs this year.

To expand access, both sides discussed setting up 300 smart classrooms across 150 institutions, along with modern labs, broadcasting centers, and updated digital infrastructure. Minister Milon stressed that technical and polytechnic education will remain a priority, with curricula redesigned to meet industry demand.

A Bangladeshi delegation has also been invited to China for a study tour, while Chinese experts will visit Bangladesh to advise on reforms. Scholarships and a proposed women’s dormitory at the University of Dhaka were also discussed.

The partnership aims to equip young people with globally competitive skills and strengthen long-term education and technology ties.
