Donation of $15 million to NTU Singapore Leverage AI in Medical Education and Research

    • The Sim Foundation has donated $15 million to Nanyang Technological University
    • The funding will support initiatives in artificial intelligence and technology to improve patient
    • The donation will help integrate global perspectives into medical education  for students.

The Sim Foundation has committed a donation of $15 million to Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), which will enhance the University's initiatives in providing transformative healthcare through education and research.

To begin with, the gift will enhance NTU's Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine's (LKCMedicine) ability to provide high-quality medical education and enhance its research enterprise, by harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine and technology to provide improved healthcare outcomes and create significant medical innovations for patients.

The donation contributes to LKCMedicine's translational research in two fields: using AI in medicine and using technology to treat patients in the hospital and at home. The latter offers equal healthcare service to older and disadvantaged patients, allowing them to receive improved clinical service and unloading hospital workload. The endowed donation will also be directed to further embed inter-cultural and global aspects into medical education at LKCMedicine. It will complement the range of international opportunities already available to medical students, e.g., a six-week international elective in Year 5, Scholarly Projects in Year 4, Overseas Community Involvement Projects or international research competitions.
