Nirvana Asia Group Launches Campaign for 3,000 School Sets

  • Nirvana Asia Group has launched a student education crowdfunding campaign aimed at providing 3,000 complete school starter sets for underprivileged children across 159 Chinese primary schools in the Klang Valley. The initiative, titled ‘Kids Have You’, was announced during the group’s annual Zhongyuan Enlightenment Ceremony held in conjunction with the seventh lunar month, also known as Gratitude Month.

The campaign seeks to ease the financial burden faced by families ahead of the new school year by supplying essential items that many households struggle to afford. For every RM100 donated, Nirvana Asia Group will deliver one full school starter set to a student in need. Each set includes a school bag, a pair of school shoes, two sets of uniform, two pairs of socks, and a handwritten card of encouragement and blessings from the donor.

Although the RM100 contribution may not cover the full cost of each set, the group has committed to settling the difference. This approach is designed to encourage wider public participation while ensuring every child receives a complete package of support. Nirvana Asia Group has further pledged that if the campaign falls short of its 3,000-set target or if schools identify additional students in need, the company will cover the remaining quantity in full so that no child is left without supplies.

Tan Sri Kong Hon Kong, founder and executive chairman of Nirvana Asia Group, emphasised the company’s long-standing focus on Chinese education during the ceremony. “Education is a vital force that changes children’s futures and forms the foundation for society’s progress,” he said. “Beyond giving back to society, we hope to leverage our corporate influence to inspire more people to care about children’s education and growth.”

The campaign has received cooperation from Chinese primary schools in the Klang Valley. School authorities are assisting by providing lists of beneficiary students to ensure that the supplies reach those who need them most. Organisers describe the effort as both a practical response to immediate needs and an opportunity to plant seeds of gratitude in young people, encouraging them to give back to society when they are able in the future.

In addition to the student support campaign, Nirvana Asia Group presented a RM50,000 mock cheque to the Malaysian National Union of Heads of Schools. The funds will support nationwide principals’ exchanges, training programmes and organisational development. The group also continues its annual allocation of RM30,000 to the Selangor Chinese Primary School Principals’ Council for the organisation of 12 academic competitions.

The ‘Kids Have You’ initiative forms part of a broader pattern in which Nirvana Asia Group has integrated social welfare themes into its traditional Zhongyuan Enlightenment Ceremonies. Since 1995 the company has held these ceremonies at its memorial parks in accordance with local religious customs. In recent years the gatherings have incorporated charitable campaigns addressing issues such as food security, anti-bullying efforts in schools, and calls for peace and compassion.

Kong noted that the ceremonies serve dual purposes: honouring ancestral traditions and filial piety while creating platforms for collective social contribution. “We hope to use the influence and reach of the company to draw attention to the challenges the world faces, while encouraging people to cherish what they already have,” he added.

Members of the public wishing to take part in the ‘Kids Have You’ campaign can visit designated booths at upcoming Enlightenment Ceremonies. These will be held at Nirvana Center Kuala Lumpur (Nirvana 2) on 29 and 30 August, and at Nirvana Memorial Park (Klang) on 5 and 6 September.

The campaign reflects a continued corporate commitment to supporting Chinese education in Malaysia through both direct student assistance and investment in school leadership development. By combining public crowdfunding with a company guarantee to meet any shortfall, Nirvana Asia Group aims to ensure that underprivileged students in the Klang Valley begin the new academic year equipped with basic school necessities and a tangible expression of community support.

Education advocates have long noted that the cost of even basic school items can present a significant barrier for lower-income families at the start of each academic year. Initiatives that address these practical needs while involving the wider public in the process of giving are viewed as one way to strengthen both educational access and social solidarity.

Through the ‘Kids Have You’ campaign, Nirvana Asia Group positions its traditional ceremonial activities as vehicles for contemporary community support, linking cultural observance with concrete assistance for the next generation of students.
