A pioneering batch of students of the Rodolfo Farinas Jr. National Science High School (RFNSHS) will be given a PHP4.49 million robotics physics package by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to help boost their creativity.
Flenie Galicinao, the supervisor of the Department of Education's education program for Laoag City and officer-in-charge at RFNSHS, told the Philippine News Agency on Tuesday that 110 students would be the direct beneficiary of this program.
The comprehensive package consists of robotics kits, experimental equipment, guidebooks, and reference materials. "The kits will greatly support our students in consolidating their classroom learning and give them practical experience in robotics and physics," Galicinao said, thanking the DOST for providing the resources needed to solidify the students' root in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
With support from DOST personnel, Galicinao mentioned that they are preparing to train teachers on how to effectively use the robotics equipment as instructional tools in anticipation of the upcoming school year.
Engineer Brian Rasco, director of DOST-Ilocos Norte, underscored the need to invest in education and innovation to instill a culture of scientific excellence throughout the province. He challenged the students to make the most of the facilities extended to them and promised continuous assistance from the agency for their studies and endeavors.
The province's first national science high school formally opened in July 2024 with 80 Grade 7 students. It was set up by Republic Act 10965, which was signed into law.
