SIM Partners Peak Energy for Greener Education Campus

  • The Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), one of Singapore’s leading private not-for-profit education institutions, has signed a long-term solar power agreement with Peak Energy to install and operate an onsite solar system at its Clementi Road campus.

Under the deal, Peak Energy will design, finance, build, own and operate an approximately 900 kWp rooftop solar installation. The system is expected to generate around 1,100 MWh of clean energy each year. SIM will purchase the electricity through a 14-year power purchase agreement (PPA) at a rate at least 45% lower than its current electricity prices, with no upfront capital investment required.

Peak Energy retains full responsibility for installation, operations and maintenance throughout the contract period. The arrangement allows SIM to lock in lower, more predictable energy costs while reducing its environmental footprint as part of a wider sustainability drive.

Singapore institutions and businesses currently face some of the highest power prices in the region. Rising demand from data centres and AI applications, combined with heavy reliance on imported natural gas, has increased both cost and volatility. Recent disruptions linked to global LNG supply issues have added further pressure. Against this backdrop, the long-term solar contract gives SIM price certainty as well as access to renewable energy.

Vincent Siow, Senior Lead for M&E – Campus Infra & Services at SIM, said the partnership marks a clear step forward. “Sustainability is increasingly part of how we think and operate, and how we prepare our learners for the future. This agreement is a discernible step in that direction: bringing onsite solar to our Clementi Road campus reduces our environmental footprint and helps us play a part in Singapore’s sustainability drive. We are pleased to partner with Peak Energy on this journey".

Gavin Adda, CEO of Peak Energy, highlighted the dual benefits of cost savings and reliability. “This partnership reflects the growing recognition Peak Energy has built in Singapore, both on the technical delivery side and in the financial strength we bring to long-term energy infrastructure. At a time when energy markets remain unbalanced and costs unpredictable, we’re able to give an institution like SIM a clear, structural way to unlock significant cost savings while securing reliable power for the long term".

The project forms part of a broader trend among Singapore’s education and institutional operators to reduce dependence on grid electricity and cut carbon emissions. Campuses with substantial rooftop space are increasingly turning to onsite solar as a practical solution.

Peak Energy, headquartered in Singapore, develops, owns and operates renewable energy assets across the Asia-Pacific region. The company has more than 300 MW of operating capacity and a development pipeline of around 2 GW spanning Japan, Korea, Australia, Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia. It is wholly owned by Stonepeak, an infrastructure-focused investment firm with approximately USD 88 billion in assets under management.

SIM, founded in 1964, operates from its Clementi Road campus and offers higher education and professional development programmes in partnership with reputable universities. The institution emphasises preparing learners for a changing world while managing its campus operations responsibly and sustainably.

The solar installation is expected to deliver both financial and environmental benefits over the 14-year term, supporting SIM’s sustainability goals and contributing to Singapore’s wider clean-energy transition.
