- American University in Dubai extends online learning until May 1
- UAE universities align with safety-first approach and remote education
- Government directive limits in-person classes to essential practical programs
The American University in Dubai has announced the extension of distance learning until the end of the Spring semester, with classes continuing online until May 1, 2026. The decision, shared through the university’s official social media channels, highlights its continued focus on student safety and academic continuity.
In its statement, the university emphasized that all decisions are being made with the well-being of students as the top priority. It assured students that they would continue to have uninterrupted access to academic resources, faculty support, and essential services throughout the remote learning period. The institution also urged students to rely only on official university platforms for accurate and timely updates.
The move aligns with similar actions taken by other institutions in the UAE. The American University of Sharjah has also extended online learning for the remainder of its semester. AUS Chancellor Dr. Tod Laursen acknowledged the challenges caused by uncertainty in recent weeks and stated that a full-semester plan would help students make better decisions and feel more secure about their academic schedules.
Meanwhile, the American University of Ras Al Khaimah has confirmed that its classes will remain online until April 17, in accordance with national directives. The university reiterated its commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of its community while encouraging students to stay connected and engaged during this period.

These decisions follow a directive from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which extended remote learning across institutions until April 17. In-person attendance is currently limited to programs that require practical, clinical, or laboratory-based training, under strict safety guidelines.
The shift to online education across universities has been in place since early March, following regional tensions that prompted precautionary measures. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with student and staff safety remaining the central concern.
