The University of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) marked its 25th anniversary on July 24 with a strong reaffirmation of its role in shaping Malaysia’s higher education future. Under the theme 'Building a Legacy of Impact, Together', the university emphasized its ongoing commitment to collaboration, innovation, and inclusive education.
Professor David FitzPatrick, Provost and CEO of UNM, highlighted the institution’s transformation since its inception in 2000, when it welcomed just 89 students. Today, the international campus hosts over 4,000 students from more than 70 countries and boasts over 18,000 alumni.
“Our goal is to continue expanding access to quality education, fostering innovation, and creating meaningful change in communities to build a legacy of impact for the next 25 years and beyond”, said Prof. FitzPatrick.
UNM’s economic and academic contributions have been significant. Between 2015 and 2024, the university generated an estimated RM30.5 billion in domestic economic impact, with research and knowledge exchange efforts contributing RM73 million in 2024 alone. It also secured 70 research grants worth RM16 million that year.
The university has invested heavily in student support, disbursing RM87 million in scholarships between 2020 and 2025, aiding over 2,300 students, including refugees and underserved communities like the Penan.

Looking ahead, UNM plans to strengthen its collaborations with industry and government stakeholders, positioning Malaysia as a leading education hub in the region.
