IntrospeXion Delivers Mental Health Education for UAE Workers

  • IntrospeXion is intensifying its efforts to support the mental health and performance of workers in the United Arab Emirates’ most demanding operational environments. The specialist workplace mental health consultancy is deepening engagement with offshore and onshore teams as companies across the energy, marine and industrial sectors place greater emphasis on psychological wellbeing, resilience and human performance.

The company has been working closely with Blu Subsea Diving Services, a Dubai-headquartered subsea services provider. Blu Subsea confirmed that IntrospeXion founder and mental health and performance psychologist Shabnum Hanif has collaborated with its management and departmental teams on mental health awareness and work-related stress. The partnership forms part of a broader push to embed practical psychological support within safety-critical workplaces.

Blu Subsea, established in 2021, specialises in diving, remotely operated vehicle operations, marine construction, survey work and underwater maintenance. With a workforce of between 51 and 200 people based in Dubai, many of its employees operate in conditions that involve extended periods offshore, demanding schedules and high-stakes decision-making. These factors can contribute to fatigue, isolation and elevated stress levels.

The two organisations have already delivered mental health workshops and drop-in support sessions for both offshore and onshore personnel. Earlier engagement included two workshops and an on-site clinic conducted during a period of heightened operational pressure for teams working in the UAE. IntrospeXion’s model prioritises bringing psychological expertise directly into the workplace rather than relying solely on external referral systems that can be difficult for workers to access quickly.

This approach is particularly relevant in environments such as rigs, vessels, platforms, construction sites and remote facilities. Conventional employee assistance programmes often struggle to reach staff who spend long periods away from home or operate under strict operational constraints. By placing practitioners on site, IntrospeXion aims to shorten the distance between support and the people who need it.

The consultancy’s services include on-site psychological clinics, individual counselling, educational sessions, critical-incident support and programmes designed to help employees manage stress while remaining in their working environment. The focus is not only on personal wellbeing but also on maintaining concentration, decision-making quality and overall operational safety.

IntrospeXion has extended similar support to other organisations in the region. It has worked with employees at Dubai Petroleum and Unique Group, delivering practical wellbeing resources and psychological interventions intended to help staff perform under demanding conditions. These engagements form part of a wider effort to create workplaces where discussions about pressure and mental health can take place more openly.

The company’s regional expansion has been formalised with the establishment of a Middle East entity and operations centred in the UAE. Masdar City in Abu Dhabi has been identified as the base for these activities, providing a strategic platform from which IntrospeXion can support organisations across the Emirates and potentially other Gulf markets. The move followed months of discussions with companies and industry contacts, during which workforce wellbeing consistently emerged as a growing priority for employers.

The timing reflects a broader shift in how Gulf employers view psychological safety. Increasingly, mental health is being treated as an integral component of operational risk management rather than a standalone employee benefit. In safety-sensitive industries, factors such as fatigue, sustained pressure, isolation and exposure to potentially traumatic incidents can directly affect concentration and decision-making. Early psychological support is therefore seen as relevant to both individual wellbeing and organisational performance.

A recent survey of 1,286 public and private-sector employees across the Middle East highlighted strong interest in technology and professional development alongside noticeable pressure linked to changing workplaces. The findings have reinforced calls for stronger leadership, skills development and more robust employee wellbeing strategies. Across energy, construction, finance, hospitality and professional services, employers are examining whether traditional wellness programmes adequately address the root causes of workplace pressure, including heavy workloads, organisational uncertainty and limited psychological safety.

For offshore personnel the challenges can be especially acute. Workers may spend weeks or months away from family and normal support networks while carrying out technically complex tasks in which errors can carry significant consequences. IntrospeXion’s model seeks to address this by embedding support within the operational setting itself, making help more immediate and relevant to the realities of the job.

As the company expands its footprint from its Masdar City base, the focus remains on practical, accessible interventions tailored to high-risk and high-pressure environments. By combining on-site clinics, education, critical-incident response and ongoing programmes, IntrospeXion is positioning psychological support as a core element of workforce resilience and operational effectiveness in the UAE and beyond.
