Asia Interventional Complications Course Holds Academic Meet Chennai

    • AICC 2.0 concluded successfully in Chennai, emerging as Asia’s largest interventional cardiology complications course with over 300 specialists in attendance.
    • The two-day program focused on high-risk cardiac interventions, featuring case-based discussions and live complex CTO procedures by global experts.
    • The event reinforced Chennai’s position as a key hub for advanced cardiovascular education, emphasizing practical training and patient safety.

The Asia Interventional Complications Course (AICC 2.0), conducted in collaboration with Promed Hospital, was a huge success at Chennai and proved yet again as the largest interventional complications course of its kind in cardiology happening in Asia, bringing under its aegis over 300 interventional cardiologists and other experts in this field of medicine at a Two-Day Advanced Academic Program. The event provided an important platform for discussing high-risk cardiac interventions and their associated complications.

The conference was officially inaugurated by Dr P Senthil Kumar, Principal Health Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu, in the presence of Dr Arun Kalyanasundaram, Director of the APCTO Club and Chief Cardiologist at Promed Hospital, and Dr Spoorthi Arun, Managing Director of Promed Hospital. Dr Senthil Kumar in his inaugural speech focused on the increasing relevance of Continuous Medical Education and High-Level Training Sessions in helping cardiac experts undertake complicated cardiac procedures. He further stated that specialized educational platforms like AICC are extremely important for improving clinical confidence and the standard of cardiac care being delivered.

The aim of the AICC 2.0 was to create a highly practical, case-driven learning programme that concentrated on advanced approaches in the treatment of complications that may arise in coronary and structural heart procedures. The topics that formed the cornerstone of the learning programme included coronary perforation, acute vessel closure, haemodynamic collapse, and vascular access issues. Such topics are practical scenarios that cath lab professionals are exposed to in their work environments.

One of the best things about this course is that six chronic total occlusions (CTO) percutaneous interventions were conducted live on patients from Australia, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Turkey, United Kingdom, and Italy. This live procedure offered delegates the opportunity to see how experts deal with complex cases as well as complications that arose during the procedure.

The international faculty was represented by Dr William Lombardi from the USA and Dr Masahisa Yamane from Japan as International Course Directors. This was followed by the addition of a number of renowned individuals from Europe, the UK, and Asia, who are experienced in dealing with the most difficult interventional complications and in developing effective systems that enable the operator to proceed with increased confidence.

Dr. Arun Kalyanasundaram, Organising Chairman of AICC 2.0, observed that the purpose of the conference is to help the operators be better prepared for the challenges ahead in patient safety outcomes and to achieve this goal through the latest procedural knowledge. Dr. Spoorthi Arun also explained that the essential purpose of AICC is to make cardiologists and cath lab staff feel comfortable while handling complicated patients and to fill the gap between theory and practical knowledge. Known for its academic richness, international faculty, and emphasis on experiential learning, AICC 2.0 further cemented Chennai's status as a major cardiovascular learning centre in the country.
