- Corvinus University and CUHK sign Strategic Partnership Agreement to co-develop the Academic & Innovation Matrix (AIM) platform for joint academic and entrepreneurial activities.
- €1 million in funding secured from Hungary’s National Research, Development and Innovation Office to support collaborative AI research, including a new neural mesh technology project.
- Partnership aims to boost cross-border innovation and academic mobility, with shared labs, joint programs, and support for researcher-led startups under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Under the deal with CUHK, 36th in the QS World University Rankings, the funds will be allocated towards running the Academic & Innovation Matrix (AIM), a joint platform for academic, research, and entrepreneurial activities developed by the parties last spring. The funding will facilitate shared research laboratories, infrastructure, and administrative and legal support at both organisations' headquarters.
The signing of the agreement was done by Rector Bruno van Pottelsberghe and Professor Peter Baranyi on behalf of Corvinus, and by Vice President Anthony T. C. Chan and Director Yeung Yam from the Shenzhen Research Institute for CUHK. The AIM platform forming the basis of the partnership was conceptualized by Professors Yeung Yam and Peter Baranyi, based on an ongoing cooperation that exists for a few decades. This strategic alliance seeks to build a mutual innovation and incubation system based on R&D, harmonizing the partners' innovation strategies from legal frameworks and institutional operations to facilitate effective technology and knowledge exchange.
The partnership also stresses scientific and academic work through facilitating networking and collaboration between business, technology, and scientific researchers, as well as pushing academic and professional exchanges that increase student, researcher, professor, and professional mobility. Joint academic programs will be created with curricula and training programs that are compatible with both sides. The agreement is predicted to speed up joint research and the introduction of innovative products that are advantageous to the industry. It will also enhance assistance to researchers in setting up businesses on the basis of their findings.
The AIM initiative fits into the Belt and Road Initiative, which is meant to deepen cooperation between the two countries. The partners also formally inaugurate their common AI development project with the signing of this Strategic Partnership Agreement, backed by almost €1 million of funding from the National Research, Development and Innovation Office. The project targets breaking new ground in a new paradigm in artificial neural networks, called neural mesh technology.
