- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) MIMAROPA completed a new three-story school building at Calapan Central School in Oriental Mindoro, adding six classrooms to ease overcrowding.
- The project is part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s commitment to improving educational facilities across the country, addressing the growing need for classrooms due to rising student enrollment.
- The new building, supported by DPWH and the Department of Education (DepEd), will enhance the learning environment, reduce overcrowding, and improve teaching effectiveness at the school.
In an attempt to decongest the classrooms and address the increasing need for classrooms, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) MIMAROPA recently finished a new three-story school building within Calapan Central School in Oriental Mindoro.
The newly built facility, situated in Barangay Ibaba West, has six classrooms and was established as part of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. government's overall commitment to improve educational facilities nationwide.
The building is intended to serve as extra learning rooms for the continuously rising number of student enrollees, as reported by Oriental Mindoro District Engineer Salvador E. Abad.
“This project underscores our continuous efforts to ensure that every Filipino student has access to a safe and conducive learning environment”, Abad said.
The initiative is part of a collaborative effort between the DPWH and the Department of Education (DepEd) to address persistent shortages in basic education facilities throughout the province.
As quoted by Analiza S. Montejo, Principal of Calapan Central School, the recently finished building is a welcome upgrade to their learning facility, particularly during a time of rising student numbers over the past few years.
"Sa maraming salamat po sa tulong ng DPWH and of course ng aming SDO (Schools Division Office). Makalaking bagay po ito sa ating aming paaralan ngunit dahil sa on-going pagdami ng mga mag-aaral, talagang kailangan na naming madagdagan ang mga silid-aralan. Ngayon, natugunan na po ang pangangailan noon. Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng nagtulong para maisakatuparan ang proyektong ito", Montejo said.
She further indicated that the new classrooms will not only reduce overcrowding but also enable more effective and intensified teaching, ultimately contributing to students' performance and general school life.
Previously, DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara indicated that such developments are essential in facilitating long-term education outcomes for Filipino youth.
"The classroom gap is an enormous challenge, but we are convinced that leveraging investments is the most effective and sustainable solution to this", he added.
