- DUET signs MoU with Malaysia’s UKM to strengthen academic ties

The Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology has signed a memorandum of understanding with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, marking a significant step toward strengthening cross-border academic cooperation in Asia. The agreement aims to enhance higher education, research collaboration, and skill development between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
The MoU was discussed during an online meeting held at DUET’s conference room, attended by DUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Joynal Abedin. He said the partnership marks the start of a shared journey focused on talent development, creativity, and technological excellence. He added that the collaboration would support the vision of building a more innovative and sustainable Bangladesh by preparing students for future industry needs.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Arefin Kawsar, highlighted that the joint initiative would help create skilled human resources by strengthening education quality, research capacity, and industry-academia linkages. He noted that exposure to international academic practices would better equip students with practical skills and improve their employability.

Senior faculty members from DUET’s engineering and science departments also joined the discussion, reflecting the institution’s multi-disciplinary focus. Representing UKM, Associate Professor Mohammad Rashed Iqbal Faruk from the Space Science Centre took part in the talks.
UKM is widely recognized as one of Malaysia’s leading public research universities, known for excellence in engineering, health sciences, IT, and management. The collaboration is expected to open new opportunities for student exchange, joint research, and skill-based learning, helping graduates from both institutions compete in a global job market.
