The Ministry of Education has launched a nationwide initiative to strengthen first-aid education and emergency preparedness in primary and secondary schools. Supported by charitable donations, the program aims to equip students with essential skills, install lifesaving equipment, and create a culture of safety within schools, ensuring that young learners are better protected in emergencies.
As part of the three-year initiative, automated external defibrillators (AEDs) will be installed in schools located in regions with limited first-aid resources. In addition, first-aid education studios will be established across all districts and counties, with each studio featuring multiple AED trainers and mannequins to provide hands-on learning opportunities. The project will be implemented in phases, beginning in 2026 with 11 provincial-level regions, including Beijing, Hebei, Jiangsu, Shandong, and Guangdong. Another 11 regions are expected to join in 2027, followed by the remaining 10 in 2028.

Each first-aid education studio will train four instructors, creating a skilled teaching workforce capable of delivering age-appropriate training. Primary school students will receive classroom-based instruction in basic first-aid knowledge, while secondary school students will benefit from practical, hands-on experience and field exercises to reinforce life-saving skills. This approach ensures that first-aid learning is both accessible and effective across all school levels.
The ministry emphasized collaboration with local education authorities, the China Teacher Development Foundation, and corporate partners such as Tencent to ensure the program’s success. Priority will be given to establishing first-aid education studios in youth activity centers or larger schools to facilitate ongoing training and community engagement. By integrating first-aid education into school curricula and providing the necessary equipment and expertise, the initiative aims to cultivate a generation of students who are not only academically prepared but also confident and capable in responding to emergencies, strengthening the overall safety and resilience of schools across the country.
