Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour emphasized historic and strategic bonds between Egypt and the UAE, expressing Egypt's intention to increasingly consolidate these relations through increased cooperation in higher education, scientific research and innovation.
During the meeting of the minister with Advisor to the UAE Presidential Court Sheikh Khalifa bin Mohammed bin Khalid alNahyan and his accompanying delegation at the ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, the two parties discussed considerable achievement in Egypt's higher education sector over recent years.
President of Alexandria University Abdelaziz Konsowa attended the meeting. The minister cited to the opening of several public, national private and technological universities and branches of renowned foreign universities in Egypt.
Ashour emphasized the need to develop academic and research collaboration with education institutions in the UAE, which helps develop human capital and enhance research outcomes in the service of the two countries' priorities in development. He reaffirmed Egypt's dream of being a centre of learning drawing students from all over the Arab world, Africa and the Middle East with multilingual study programmes. The minister also commended the quick development that took place at Alexandria University in all educational, medical and research disciplines.

Ashour confirmed that the university's highly professional academic staff greatly supports its pioneer role in serving Egypt's education and healthcare sectors. Meanwhile, for his part, the UAE presidential court advisor expressed the UAE's profound gratitude to Egypt and the close fraternal relationship between the two nations.
He reiterated the UAE's determination to support closer academic and scientific cooperation with Egypt and increased partnerships in higher education, research and innovation. Sheikh Khalifa praised the tremendous development of Egypt's higher education system and its growing regional and international leadership. He received the opening of Alexandria University's branch in Abu Dhabi as a worthwhile contribution that will provide contemporary academic programs and needs of the labor market. Konsowa indicated that preparations are in motion for opening the university's Abu Dhabi branch, which will provide a set of academic programs in health sciences, engineering, computer science, business, and humanities.
Meanwhile, the two sides deliberated on how to enhance cooperation in research, industry linkages, knowledge economy and academic exchange, with an emphasis on maximising the benefits of research outputs for the mutual advantage of the two countries.
