ELSI to Host PCST Japan 2025 to Boost Science Communication Skill

    • First PCST Symposium to be held in Japan from November 11-13, 2025
    • Focus on building education and training in science communication
    • Features global experts, workshops, and collaborative sessions on AI and public engagement

The Earth-Life Science Institute (ELSI) at the Institute of Science Tokyo will host the PCST Japan Symposium 2025 from November 11 to 13, 2025, marking the first-ever PCST event in Japan. Organized in partnership with the Public Communication of Science and Technology (PCST) Network and the Japan SciCom Forum (JSF), the symposium aims to strengthen Asia’s contribution to global science communication.

The event will bring together educators, researchers, and professionals to explore two key themes, how to build formal and informal education and training programs in science communication across Asia, and how to bridge research and practice to reach diverse audiences. Participants will collaborate through keynotes, talks, and workshops to develop actionable ideas and policy recommendations.

The symposium will feature two keynote speakers, Professor Sujatha Raman, UNESCO Chair at the Australian National University, who will discuss 'culturing' science communication for public good, and Dr. Asako Okamura from Japan’s NISTEP, who will speak on the future of science communication and foresight studies.

On the final day, workshops will focus on AI use in communication, institutional branding, avoiding hype in science storytelling, and using generative AI for engagement.

Dr. Thilina Heenatigala, symposium Co-Chair, said, “Hosting PCST Japan 2025 reflects our mission to connect science and society while promoting Asian perspectives in global dialogues”.
