In a significant move to bolster Vietnam–Korea technology collaboration, global IT services leader FPT Corporation signed strategic agreements with ABOV Semiconductor and Gachon University during the Vietnam–Korea Economic Forum 2025. The ceremony saw the presence of South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam, underscoring the high-level significance of the partnerships.
FPT’s collaboration with ABOV Semiconductor, a prominent designer and manufacturer of microcontrollers, advanced nonvolatile memory, and other semiconductor solutions, will focus on joint research, design, and development of next-generation chips. The partnership aims to expand the market and application of semiconductor products in South Korea while leveraging FPT-designed chips in the local market. Both companies will cooperate on research and development projects to complement their technical expertise and produce competitive products. In addition, discussions will continue on FPT’s semiconductor engineering services, evaluated on a case-by-case basis, as part of the broader strategy to establish a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem. This ecosystem will cover skilled talent development, custom IC design, advanced packaging, and semiconductor testing.
On the education front, FPT University and Gachon University signed a memorandum to strengthen high-tech human resource training. The agreement facilitates student exchanges at undergraduate and graduate levels, joint academic programs, faculty and scholar exchanges, and sharing of academic materials and publications. FPT University, a pioneer in Vietnam in IT education, offers programs in AI, cybersecurity, software engineering, and semiconductor IC design, with curricula designed to meet both industry demands and international standards.
FPT’s presence in South Korea, operational since 2016, includes nearly 2,000 employees working locally and remotely from Vietnam. The company serves major clients such as LG Electronics, LG CNS, Shinhan Bank, Daegu Bank, and Shinsegae I&C. Recognized in Gartner’s Top 200 technology companies in South Korea for 2020–2021, FPT is the leading Vietnamese enterprise in revenue and workforce scale in the country’s competitive IT market.
Through these strategic partnerships, FPT aims to advance semiconductor technology, foster skilled human resources, and deepen bilateral cooperation, further cementing its role as a bridge for innovation between Vietnam and South Korea.
