Karnataka & Singapore Deepen Collaboration in Skills and Innovation

    • Karnataka and Singapore plan to collaborate in education, skill development, and innovation.

    Karnataka and Singapore are set to deepen cooperation in education, skill development, and innovation as part of a broader effort to strengthen trade and industrial ties between the two regions. Singapore’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Industry, Gan Siow Huang, met Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Industries Minister MB Patil in Bengaluru to discuss new areas of collaboration.

    The talks focused on boosting partnerships in higher education, research exchange, and advanced skill training, areas where Singapore has established global expertise. Shivakumar said the partnership aims to build a future-ready workforce through training programs and academic linkages between universities and industries from both regions.

    Patil highlighted opportunities for collaboration in aviation maintenance, IT, semiconductor design, fintech, and pharmaceuticals. He also announced plans to visit Singapore in early 2026 to formalize cooperation through an action plan that includes joint programs for workforce development and innovation-led entrepreneurship.

    Singapore, known for its excellence in technical education and skill-based industries, has been a key investor in India, contributing over USD 174.88 billion since 2020 - around 24% of India’s total FDI inflow. More than 9,000 Indian firms operate in Singapore, while over 440 Singaporean companies have a presence in India.

    The growing collaboration between Karnataka and Singapore is expected to create stronger global industry linkages, enhance employability, and accelerate innovation-led growth in the state.
