KT&G Student Volunteers Launch Education Drive in Indonesia

    • 60 college volunteers have been dispatched to Indonesia to support and improve local school facilities.
    • Activities include constructing and renovating libraries and bathrooms, painting classrooms, and organizing cultural exchange programs with local students.
    • The initiative is designed to enhance learning environments, foster global awareness, and help students develop teamwork, leadership, and cross-cultural skills.

The KT&G Social Welfare Foundation has sent 60 college students from its volunteer group, Sangsang Withus, to Bogor and Pasuruan in Indonesia. The volunteers will stay until January 27, working on projects to improve educational facilities and promote cross-cultural learning.

Sangsang Withus, active since 2005, has previously sent 2,000 students on 60 trips to countries such as Indonesia and Mongolia, focusing on enhancing educational infrastructure and community well-being.

During this visit, the volunteers will construct and renovate libraries and bathrooms at Vina Bangsa Sezatera Plus Elementary School in Bogor and Elcana Elementary School in Pasuruan. They will also organize cultural classes, sports days, and group performances to foster interaction and learning between local students and Korean volunteers.

A spokesperson for KT&G Social Welfare Foundation said, “We have supported educational development in countries like Vietnam and Myanmar. As a global corporate citizen, we will continue to help communities at home and abroad”.

Founded in 2003, the foundation has donated 2,455 vehicles to social welfare organizations in Korea and supported energy-vulnerable households with heating and winter supplies. Globally, it has established 10 schools across three countries since 2018, emphasizing education as a key tool for social progress.

Through programs like Sangsang Withus, KT&G not only improves learning spaces but also helps students develop leadership, teamwork, and cross-cultural skills, preparing them for future careers in a connected world.
