LG & Korea IP Office Launch Special Needs Education Program

    • LG Electronics and Korea IP Office launched appliance experience classes for children and youth with disabilities.
    • The program combines hands-on appliance learning with invention education for better accessibility.
    • LG aims to promote safe appliance use and foster young inventors through inclusive education.

LG Electronics, in partnership with the Korean Intellectual Property Office, has started appliance experience classes designed for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities. The initiative was kicked off at Daniel School in Seoul, where 30 students joined the first hands-on learning session.

The program blends LG’s ‘Home Appliance School one-day class’ with the IP Office’s ‘visiting invention experience classroom’ led by the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA). Students learn the basic electrical and mechanical principles of appliances through fun, interactive activities, while also being encouraged to explore creativity and invention.

This collaboration follows a business agreement signed in March to enhance accessibility in home appliances for people with disabilities. As part of this effort, LG previously held an idea contest that received 250 submissions. Four ideas were chosen to create the ‘LG Comfort Kit’, a set of assistive tools that make appliances easier for everyone to use, regardless of age or ability.

LG is also carrying out broader initiatives such as distributing easy-to-read books, sharing instructional videos for seniors and people with disabilities, and running the ‘Everyone’s LG for Everyone’ campaign. These efforts reflect the company’s ESG vision of creating ‘a better life for all’.

Lee Hyangeun, head of HS CX at LG Electronics, said, “We will keep preparing educational activities that help children and adolescents understand appliances better, use them safely, and enjoy inclusive experiences”.
