    • South Korea’s 'earn and learn' model and six planned Korean language centers aim to boost employability in advanced sectors.
    • The partnership supports Vision 2025, expanding overseas opportunities and strengthening Pakistan-East Asia ties.

In a landmark move to enhance global employment prospects for Pakistani youth, the National Skills University (NSU) Islamabad has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tongwon University, South Korea. The agreement was formalized during a high-level ceremony chaired by Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

This collaboration aims to align Pakistan’s vocational training programs with international job market standards, focusing on skill development in critical technological fields. A four-member delegation from Tongwon University visited NSU to discuss joint initiatives, emphasizing the importance of Korean language training and introducing South Korea’s acclaimed “earn and learn” model. This model allows students to gain practical work experience while pursuing education, fostering both financial independence and skill development.

Dr. Siddiqui, who also serves as Pro-Chancellor of NSU, reiterated the government’s commitment to developing a tech-savvy and globally competitive workforce. He underscored the role of partnerships with institutions like NAVTTC in preparing Pakistan for the demands of the fourth industrial revolution, particularly in areas such as automation and electronics.

NSU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar praised the agreement as a milestone in international education cooperation. He highlighted NSU’s recent growth, including the launch of a sub-campus in Muridke and plans for a new Karachi campus to extend opportunities to underserved regions.

The Korean delegation also revealed plans to establish six Korean language centers in Pakistan in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Education. These centers will enhance employability in sectors like renewable energy, smart manufacturing, and medical technology.

This strategic partnership supports Pakistan’s Vision 2025 by diversifying labor export destinations beyond the Middle East and strengthening economic ties with East Asia.
