Quezon City Launches Filipino Language Scholarship Program

    • Introduces a dedicated scholarship program focused on Filipino language and literature
    • Supports students, researchers, educators, and writers across academic and creative fields
    • Boosts language skills, cultural awareness, and access to education, especially for underserved communities

The Quezon City government has launched a new scholarship program to promote the Filipino language while expanding education and skill-building opportunities. Called the Manuel L. Quezon Filipino Language and Literature Scholarship Program, the initiative supports students, educators, researchers, and writers pursuing Filipino studies.

Named after President Manuel L. Quezon, known as the Father of the Filipino Language, the program reflects the city’s commitment to inclusive education and cultural development. Mayor Joy Belmonte said the scholarship invests in both learners and national identity, helping Filipino language and literature remain strong in schools and communities.

The program was enacted under Ordinance No. SP-3458, S-2025, which updates Quezon City’s Expanded Scholarship Code. It introduces a dedicated track for Filipino language, literature, linguistics, translation, journalism, education, and related fields. The scholarship is open to college students, postgraduate scholars, and applicants seeking creative writing and literary grants.
