Saudi-Yemen Partnership Expands Education and Skills Development

    • The projects are expected to generate local jobs through construction, teaching, and support services.
    • Improved access to quality education aims to raise teaching standards and support long-term student development.

Saudi Arabia has signed a new agreement to support education and skills development in Yemen, as part of a wider effort to strengthen essential services and create job opportunities.

The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) partnered with Yemen’s Social Fund for Development to implement nine new projects, covering both education and health across several governorates. The agreement was signed in Riyadh by SDRPY General Supervisor Ambassador Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Jaber and Social Fund Executive Director Hossam Qaid.

Five of the projects focus on education, with plans to build modern model schools in Marib, Lahj, Al-Dhale’a, Shabwa, and Abyan. These schools will include science and computer laboratories, helping students gain practical and digital skills needed for today’s job market. The facilities will also offer sports areas, staff offices, and inclusive designs to support students with disabilities.

Officials said the education projects aim to raise teaching standards, improve learning environments, and support student skill development, especially in science and technology. By upgrading school infrastructure, the program hopes to better prepare young Yemenis for higher education and future employment.

Alongside education, four health projects will be rolled out in Lahj, Taiz, and Al-Dhale’a. These include rural hospitals and maternal and child health centers, which are also expected to generate jobs during construction and operation.

SDRPY noted that improving education and health services plays a key role in long-term development and workforce readiness. Since its launch, the program has delivered more than 268 projects across Yemen, spanning education, health, water, energy, transport, and institutional capacity building.

The latest agreement highlights a continued focus on skills, jobs, and human development as foundations for Yemen’s recovery and future growth.
