Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) has introduced a mobile sustainability exhibition with the aim of engaging young Singaporeans in the primary schools across Singapore. The roving showcase encourages eco-curiosity and behavioural responsibility by showcasing Sentosa's sustainable resort experiences through interactive and fun activities.
The program started at Corporation Primary School, and was graced by minister for education and minister-in-charge of social services integration Desmond Lee. The exhibition will be making appearances at all local primary schools over the next 18 months, giving pupils the chance to get familiar with first-hand examples of sustainability on Sentosa.
Located in a vibrantly painted truck, the traveling display is a new development in SDC's initiatives promoting environmental responsibility among children. It follows the success of the RISE Sustainability Showcase at Sentosa Beach Station earlier this year, highlighting activities such as clean energy, biodiversity protection, and waste minimization. The new mobile exhibit tailors these initiatives to a younger generation, challenging students to design an environmentally friendly vacation on Sentosa and learn about how everyday decisions create a healthier world.
Within the truck, students are in a role-played adventure in which they make sustainable decisions and earn points while discovering topics such as cleaner means of transportation such as cycling routes and electrically-powered shuttles; environmentally friendly leisure pursuits such as wildlife excursions and green attractions; sustainable consumption like farm-to-table restaurants; and green practices at home and when in hotels. Students monitor their own progress on a scorecard, which is also a certificate of completion and can be traded for a Timmy and Tammy at Sentosa storybook.
The exhibition also includes a 2D funnel display to illustrate how Sentosa waste is turned into useful products, such as specimens of roads constructed from recycled materials like luge carts and kayaks. The experience is carried out beyond the truck in activities such as plastic-based recycling crafts and recycled banners, worksheets about local plants and animals, interactive storytelling, an environmental-themed jigsaw puzzle, a recycled canvas where students sign pledgings for environmentally friendly actions, and videos presenting Sentosa's environmentally sustainable initiatives.
This programme enforces the Singapore Green Plan 2030 through taking environmental education outdoors and inviting students, teachers, and communities to take an active role in shaping a sustainable world. The mobile exhibition will continue until December 2026 and supplements Sentosa's current Learning Journeys, which provide for the possibility of observing biodiversity, heritage, and sustainability on the island up close.
SDC CEO Thien Kwee Eng said: “Through this school-based initiative where sustainability becomes part of students’ everyday learning environment, we are investing in the next generation of eco champions. We want to show young learners that sustainability starts with simple everyday choices, and by discovering real-life examples on Sentosa, they can see how their actions, no matter how small, can contribute to a greener future”.
