Sharjah Maritime Academy (SMA) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sharaf Group to strengthen maritime education, hands-on training, and career opportunities for students in the UAE.
The agreement, signed by Dr. Hashim Abdullah Bin Sarhan AlZaabi, Chancellor of SMA, and Sharafuddin Alsayed Mohd H S M Yousif Sharaf, Vice-Chairman of Sharaf Group, aims to bridge academic learning with real-world industry experience, preparing students for the growing demands of the UAE’s maritime sector.
Under the MoU, Sharaf Group will provide sea-going cadetship training for students in SMA’s Marine Technology and Marine Engineering Technology programs. Shore-based internships will also be offered in maritime logistics, port operations, supply chain management, and marine services. The partnership will support graduate employment by notifying SMA of relevant vacancies and considering qualified graduates for recruitment.

The collaboration also covers customized training courses, joint certification programs aligned with international maritime standards, and professional development initiatives. Both parties will work together on community engagement projects, maritime awareness programs, youth initiatives, and participation in industry conferences.
Dr. AlZaabi said, “This collaboration equips our students with the skills and professional exposure needed to contribute effectively to the maritime industry”. Sharaf added, “We are committed to developing Emirati talent and creating a sustainable pipeline of skilled professionals”.
