UI Partners with Tsinghua to Boost Research and Global Skills

    • Partnership to expand research, technology development, and double-degree programs
    • Focus on mRNA dengue vaccine and clean energy projects
    • Collaboration strengthens student skills, global exposure, and career opportunities

Universitas Indonesia (UI) has signed a strategic partnership with China’s Tsinghua University to enhance research collaboration, student learning, and global exposure. The MoU, signed on November 4, 2025, aims to position UI as a leading global hub for talent and innovation, following its earlier agreement with Peking University.

The partnership goes beyond student exchanges, focusing on co-developing future technologies. High-impact research projects are a key priority, including the development of an mRNA-based dengue vaccine supported by Indonesia’s National Food and Drug Agency (BPOM). The collaboration also extends to clean energy and decarbonization research through Tsinghua’s Institute of Carbon Neutrality and UI’s Net Zero Initiative.

UI will provide seed and matching grants for joint research and invite Tsinghua experts as visiting lecturers in its international programs. Students benefit from enhanced double-degree opportunities, allowing them to earn qualifications from two top universities, increasing their skills, employability, and global career prospects.

UI has produced 39 joint scientific papers with Tsinghua over the past five years, and this partnership seeks to accelerate innovation, technology development, and translational research. UI is ranked 189th in the QS World University Rankings and aims for the top 100 with government support, while Tsinghua is ranked 17th globally.
