NIIT University Launches AI Centre of Excellence with NVIDIA

  • NIIT University (NU), often described as the University of the Future, has deepened its long-standing commitment to artificial intelligence and data science education with the official launch of its AI Centre of Excellence. The dedicated facility brings enterprise-grade GPU computing and industry-standard AI tools directly onto campus, enabling students to train, fine-tune and deploy AI models from their very first year.

The Centre is powered by NVIDIA technologies and is designed as a high-performance computing hub supporting Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Edge AI, Generative AI, Agentic AI and data-intensive research. It is equipped with three YodaEdge devices capable of supporting up to 30 concurrent users, creating a scalable and collaborative environment for students, faculty and research scholars.

As India rapidly accelerates enterprise AI adoption across industries, the demand for skilled AI professionals continues to outstrip supply. According to NASSCOM, India’s AI talent pool is projected to grow from 600,000-650,000 professionals in 2024 to more than 1.25 million by 2027. NIIT University aims to help bridge this gap by giving learners practical, industry-ready exposure to the same class of infrastructure used by leading AI organisations worldwide.

Prof. Prakash Gopalan, President of NIIT University, emphasised the university’s philosophy: “At NIIT University, we believe artificial intelligence should not only be taught, it should be built. The AI Centre of Excellence reflects our commitment to experiential learning, giving students access to the same class of infrastructure and NVIDIA Technologies used by leading AI organisations worldwide, right from the start of their degree. This positions our graduates to enter the workforce with practical, deployment-ready experience rather than theoretical knowledge alone.”

The technology stack includes NVIDIA DGX YodaEdge systems, NVIDIA NeMo, NVIDIA NIM Microservices, PyTorch and JupyterLab. Through this infrastructure, students will gain hands-on experience building generative AI applications, agentic AI systems, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines and multi-agent workflows, multimodal AI applications spanning vision, speech and reasoning, robotics and perception systems, model optimisation and quantisation techniques, and human-computer interaction research.

The laboratory will support a wide range of interdisciplinary applications, including Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Large Language Models, Intelligent IoT Systems, Predictive Analytics and Smart Healthcare solutions. Beyond regular coursework, the facility is also envisioned as a venue for faculty development programmes, technical workshops, hackathons, industry interaction sessions and startup incubation activities.

The AI Centre of Excellence forms a natural extension of NIIT University’s broader educational model, which prioritises industry-linked, technology-based, research-driven and seamless learning. Practical exposure is already deeply embedded across programmes through industry-originated classroom projects, summer internships and the flagship six-month Industry Practice programme. With 35 percent of the BTech curriculum dedicated to hands-on learning, the university works closely with industry partners through its Centre for Industrial Collaboration (CIC) to ensure students graduate with career-ready skills.

Located on a fully residential 100-acre green campus in the Aravalli hills at Neemrana, Rajasthan just 1.5 hours from Delhi airport NIIT University has built a reputation for focusing on emerging technology and management domains since its establishment in 2009. As a not-for-profit institution under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, notified by the Government of Rajasthan, the university inherits decades of expertise from the NIIT Group and remains committed to creating original thinkers for the knowledge society of the future.

Education World rankings have previously recognised the university’s standing, placing it second among the top universities in Rajasthan and 22nd among 100 private universities in India in its 2022 survey. The launch of the AI Centre of Excellence further consolidates NU’s position as an institution that treats artificial intelligence not merely as a subject to be studied, but as a capability to be practised and deployed at scale.

By combining academic rigour with enterprise-grade infrastructure from day one, NIIT University is preparing a new generation of AI-ready engineers and problem-solvers equipped to design and implement real-world solutions. The Centre strengthens the university’s long-standing focus on AI-led education, interdisciplinary learning and meaningful industry-academia collaboration at a time when India needs precisely these capabilities to meet the growing demand for skilled AI talent.
