Arizona State University (ASU) President Michael Crow is looking to build stronger ties with Korea to advance innovation in education and artificial intelligence (AI). On a visit to Seoul, Crow stressed the need for universities to embrace AI not to replace human learning, but to empower it.
Michael Crow, President of Arizona State University, said, "AI is everywhere and impossible to ignore". He highlighted how ASU already uses AI tools like chatbots, e-advisors, and virtual reality classrooms to improve student outcomes. He emphasized that AI has the power to reshape education by making learning more personalized and effective.
Crow also announced that musician and tech entrepreneur will.i.am will join ASU as a professor of practice to teach a course focused on embedding human values and empathy in AI development.
His three day trip includes meetings with leaders from top Korean institutions such as Seoul National University, POSTECH, and Korea University. ASU is also exploring the launch of a public policy graduate program and opportunities for collaboration in Korea’s growing media tech space.

Beyond education, Crow is building university-industry partnerships in fields like semiconductors, where ASU has played a key role in Arizona’s tech growth. After Korea, Crow will visit TSMC in Taiwan, a major ASU partner.
ASU's growing digital presence includes a partnership with OpenAI, which has brought ChatGPT into classrooms for both students and faculty.
Crow’s vision is for ASU to support learners of all ages globally, using flexible, AI powered education to improve lives.
