AURAK Revamps Business Degrees for AI and FinTech Era

  • The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has overhauled its undergraduate business programmes to better prepare graduates for a global economy increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, financial technology, data analytics and digital commerce.

Following formal approval from the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), AURAK’s School of Business has introduced significant updates to its Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. The revised offering includes enhanced majors in Finance and Financial Technologies and Digital Marketing Management, together with a newly launched Entrepreneurship concentration. University leaders say the changes reflect a fundamental shift in what employers now expect from business graduates: solid commercial foundations combined with technological fluency, analytical skills and entrepreneurial mindset.

“The business landscape is evolving at an unprecedented pace,” said AURAK President Professor Bassam Alameddine. “AI, analytics, FinTech and digital platforms are transforming how organisations make decisions, engage customers and create value. Business education must evolve at the same pace. At AURAK, we are ensuring that our students develop strong business fundamentals while gaining exposure to emerging technologies, specialised knowledge and real-world applications. Our goal is to prepare graduates who can think critically, adapt confidently and create value in an increasingly dynamic global economy.”

The Finance and Financial Technologies major has been redesigned to address the rapid convergence of traditional finance with digital innovation. Students will study digital banking, financial innovation, data-driven decision-making and the technologies that are reshaping capital markets and payment systems. Educators note that the financial sector is no longer separate from technology; the two domains now overlap extensively, and graduates who understand both will be better positioned for roles in banks, fintech start-ups and regulatory bodies.

The Digital Marketing Management major responds to an equally dramatic transformation in how companies reach and retain customers. Digital platforms, real-time analytics, personalised advertising and technology-enabled consumer engagement have altered the marketing landscape. The updated curriculum aims to equip students with practical skills in digital strategy, performance measurement and platform-based campaign management so they can operate effectively in this data-rich environment.

A new Entrepreneurship concentration has also been added. University officials say the concentration will encourage students to develop venture-creation skills, opportunity recognition and the ability to turn ideas into sustainable businesses capabilities viewed as essential in an economy that rewards innovation and agility.

These curriculum changes align closely with the UAE’s national economic priorities. The country’s Digital Economy Strategy sets an ambitious target of doubling the digital economy’s contribution to GDP from 9.7 percent in 2022 to 19.4 percent within a decade. Officials argue that universities must supply talent capable of supporting that expansion.

Evidence of the shift is already visible in the financial sector. In July 2026, the Dubai International Financial Centre reported that its community of AI, FinTech and innovation companies had grown 39 percent year-on-year, reaching 1,933 firms. The rapid expansion underscores how deeply technology is embedding itself in mainstream business and finance across the region.

AURAK’s leadership positions the programme updates as part of a broader effort to strengthen the link between classroom learning, emerging technologies and industry requirements. By integrating specialised knowledge with practical application, the university aims to produce graduates ready not only for today’s workplace but for the opportunities and challenges that will define the next decade of business.

The revisions arrive at a time when employers increasingly seek candidates who can navigate both traditional commercial principles and the digital tools that now underpin decision-making, customer engagement and value creation. University administrators believe the updated majors and new concentration will help close that gap and position AURAK graduates competitively in a market that continues to prioritise technological literacy alongside core business competence.

As the UAE advances its digital transformation agenda, institutions such as AURAK are adjusting academic offerings to match the speed of change. The enhanced Bachelor of Science in Business Administration is presented as one concrete step toward ensuring that the next generation of professionals enters the workforce equipped for an economy in which artificial intelligence, financial technology and digital platforms are no longer peripheral they are central.
