AwanBiru Technology Wins RM16.4 Million Higher Education AI Deal

    • AwanBiru Technology wins RM16.42 million MOHE contracts to deploy Google-powered AI tools across Malaysia’s public universities.
    • AI solutions to benefit students, lecturers, and administrators, integrating NotebookLM Enterprise and Gemini into Google Workspace for Education.
    • 13-month rollout from January 2026 supports the government’s digital transformation and AI-driven higher education strategy.

AwanBiru Technology Bhd has secured two contracts valued at a combined RM16.42 million from Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to supply Google-powered artificial intelligence tools to public universities across the country. The contracts mark a significant step in the government’s broader push to integrate advanced digital technologies into higher education.

According to a filing with Bursa Malaysia, both contracts were awarded on December 26 to Awantec Systems Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of AwanBiru Technology. The group serves as the managed service provider for Google Cloud Malaysia, positioning it as a key partner in delivering cloud-based and AI-driven solutions to public sector institutions.

Under the agreements, Awantec Systems will provide NotebookLM Enterprise and Gemini for Google Workspace to students, lecturers, and university administrators. These tools are designed to support learning, teaching, and administrative functions by embedding AI-driven capabilities within the existing Google Workspace for Education environment used by public universities.

The larger of the two contracts, valued at RM10.62 million, focuses on supplying AI tools to students. The second contract, worth RM5.8 million, covers the provision of the same technologies to lecturers and university administrators. Together, the contracts have a tenure of 13 months, beginning on January 1, 2026, and running until January 31, 2027.

AwanBiru Technology said the deployment of these tools is intended to strengthen the digital infrastructure already in place at public universities. By integrating advanced AI features into Google Workspace for Education, the initiative is expected to enhance learning experiences, improve productivity, and support more effective collaboration among students, educators, and administrators.

The company said the project aligns closely with MOHE’s digital transformation strategy for higher education. “This initiative supports the ministry’s efforts to improve teaching and learning outcomes, while also boosting academic research productivity through the use of advanced AI technologies”, the group said in its statement.

Industry observers note that tools such as NotebookLM Enterprise and Gemini can help students with research, summarisation, and knowledge organisation, while enabling lecturers and administrators to streamline workflows, develop teaching materials more efficiently, and analyse information with greater speed and accuracy.

Despite the positive long-term outlook of the contract win, AwanBiru Technology’s shares closed lower on Monday. The stock fell by 1.5 sen, or nearly 5%, to settle at 29.5 sen, giving the company a market capitalisation of approximately RM233 million. Market watchers attributed the dip to broader market sentiment rather than concerns over the contracts themselves.

With this latest win, AwanBiru Technology continues to strengthen its presence in Malaysia’s public sector digital ecosystem. The company said it remains focused on supporting national digitalisation efforts, particularly in education, by leveraging cloud computing and AI technologies to deliver scalable and impactful solutions.
