Gimpo City Teams Up With Yonsei University For AI-SW Education

    • Gimpo City rolls out AI-SW convergence textbooks for middle and high schools, strengthening future-ready education across the city.
    • Textbooks developed with Yonsei University are based on award-winning curriculum ideas and tested through successful pilot classes.
    • Practical, classroom-ready content integrates AI and software with real-world subjects, supporting teachers and expanding innovative learning models.

Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province has taken a significant step toward strengthening future-oriented education by developing and distributing new textbooks focused on AI-SW convergence education to middle and high schools across the city. Designed to reflect local characteristics and classroom realities, the textbooks have already been tested through pilot classes at selected high schools, where they received an overwhelmingly positive response from both teachers and students.

The textbooks are based on winning ideas from an AI-SW convergence education curriculum contest held earlier this year for students and faculty at Yonsei University. Rather than remaining as conceptual proposals, the selected ideas were further refined and transformed into practical teaching materials that could be directly applied in schools. Following development, the textbooks were distributed to teachers throughout Gimpo City to support classroom instruction and curriculum innovation.

What sets these textbooks apart is their emphasis on integrating artificial intelligence and software with existing academic subjects and real-world issues. The core concepts from the award-winning contest entries were systematically organized into complete educational frameworks, including lesson plans, achievement standards, and assessment strategies. This structure allows teachers to immediately incorporate AI-SW convergence education into their classes without the need for additional preparation or redesign.

To ensure educational quality and field relevance, the textbooks were developed with guidance from a review committee composed of experienced education professionals actively engaged in schools. Their input helped align the content with the learning levels and environments of middle and high school students. As a result, the materials are not only suitable for regular classroom use but are also expected to support a wide range of future educational programs, such as project-based learning, extracurricular activities, and specialized training initiatives.

The effectiveness of the textbooks was further examined through pilot classes conducted at high schools by the curriculum authors themselves. These sessions provided an opportunity to observe student participation, evaluate learning outcomes, and share practical teaching cases directly from the classroom. Feedback gathered during the pilot phase will be used to enhance future iterations of the textbooks and inform the direction of upcoming curriculum contests.

An official from Gimpo City described the textbook initiative as an important starting point for expanding innovative AI-SW convergence education within schools. The official emphasized that by actively reflecting insights from pilot classes, the city aims to establish practical and sustainable education models that can be widely adopted across middle and high schools.

This initiative is part of a broader collaboration between Gimpo City and Yonsei University to nurture local students as future talents. Throughout the year, the partnership has supported various programs, including curriculum contests, textbook development, school-based education initiatives, competitions, and mentoring. Building on this foundation, Gimpo City plans to introduce additional projects next year to further advance AI-SW convergence education and strengthen its educational ecosystem.
