- AI-driven tools to improve learning outcomes and reduce teacher workload
- Project AGAP.AI to build digital and job-ready skills among students and educators
- Regional partnership to promote responsible AI use in education
The Department of Education (DepEd) is strengthening its partnership with ASEAN countries to expand AI-powered digital learning across Philippine schools. The move aims to improve student learning outcomes while easing administrative pressure on teachers through smart technology.
DepEd highlighted this effort during the 3rd Regional Policy Convening of the AI Ready ASEAN Programme held in Pasig City. The event brought together education leaders, policymakers, and development partners to promote AI literacy and responsible technology use across Southeast Asia.
At the center of the Philippines’ contribution is Project AGAP.AI, DepEd’s flagship initiative to integrate artificial intelligence into basic education. Since its launch, nearly 796,000 Filipino students and educators have completed AI fundamentals training. The program prepares schools for data-driven learning and builds digital skills that are increasingly important for future jobs.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the Philippines views digital transformation as a shared regional effort. He stressed that collaboration with ASEAN partners will help create inclusive growth and ensure that technology benefits all learners.

For students, the partnership is expected to improve access to digital tools, strengthen online and blended learning, and enable early identification of learning gaps. For teachers, AI systems will help with lesson planning, reduce paperwork, and provide real-time insights on student progress, allowing more time for teaching and mentoring.
Supported by the ASEAN Foundation and Google.org, the initiative also aligns with the Philippines’ ASEAN chairmanship in 2026, with a strong focus on digital education and workforce readiness.
