Digital Device Drive Enhances Education in North Jakarta

    • Wahana Visi Indonesia and Seoul Guarantee Insurance (SGI) donate digital devices to North Jakarta schools.
    • The initiative supports over 5,000 students, improving access to digital learning tools.
    • Program aims to enhance digital literacy for both teachers and students in the region.

Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI), in partnership with Seoul Guarantee Insurance (SGI), has continued its educational support through the SGI Dream Class initiative by donating digital devices to schools in North Jakarta. Now in its fourth year since starting in 2022, this program has reached three schools and positively impacted more than 5,000 students across Jakarta.

Yonathan Prasha, Program Manager at WVI, expressed gratitude for SGI’s ongoing support, which helps provide meaningful educational opportunities for children. He also acknowledged the role of the Indonesian government, school leaders, teachers, and students, who maintain and effectively use the donated equipment.

This project, developed alongside the North Jakarta Education Sub-agency and local education officials, aims to bridge the gap in access to digital learning tools. Muhaeri, Acting Head of Elementary School at the North Jakarta Education Sub-Department, highlighted the importance of these donations. He noted that while government funds support education, distribution of digital facilities remains limited. The devices are expected to help students perform better, especially in national computer-based tests.

Sanghoon Oh, Chief Officer at SGI’s Jakarta office, said the SGI Dream Class program is a commitment to helping Indonesian children grow and succeed. He stressed that providing the right environment and tools is crucial to developing the country’s future leaders.

One challenge the program addresses is the low digital literacy among many teachers, caused by limited training, infrastructure, and support. This makes it difficult for educators to integrate technology into their teaching effectively. Strengthening digital skills through practical training is key to improving education quality.

Students also face obstacles due to limited access to technology both at school and home, affecting their ability to develop critical skills like creativity, communication, and collaboration. Improving teachers’ digital skills will help students gain these essential competencies for the digital age.
